Abstract
Aim: Incorporating herbal extracts into sports drinks can be a safe and effective strategy to improve sports performance. The aim of this study was to investigate the acute and chronic effects of a 9-plant drink on physical fitness indicators and respiratory capacity in active students.
Methodology: This semi-experimental study included 40 participants. They engaged in practical sports classes for one month, five days a week. At the beginning of the period, the groups consumed the drinks 15 minutes before the tests; then, body composition, respiratory capacity, and physical fitness indicators were assessed over two consecutive days. During the one-month period, both groups consumed the drinks before their first daily sports activity. Twenty-four hours after the last dose, they again consumed the drinks before the tests, and the assessments were conducted over two days. Repeated-measures ANOVA in SPSS was used to determine differences in mean indices between the groups.
Results: Statistical analysis showed that after one month, drinking 75 ml 15 minutes before exercise significantly improved mean expiratory flow. Also, between-group changes in body composition, acceleration, agility, and lower limb muscle strength were significant, but the post-test showed no difference between the two groups at the two times before and after the research period.
Conclusion: It seems that consumption of the 9-plant drink can have a positive effect in short-term use and improve some respiratory indicators, physical fitness, and body composition that influence motor performance in active students.
